Christy Sommers spotted her first sweatered goat in rural Bangladesh in 2010 while on a Fulbright fellowship in the area. As she traveled more extensively, she discovered only the goats in lowland areas - across the Indian plains from Rajasthan to Bengal and into Bangladesh - were clothed. The owners say the reason for goat clothing is simple: Goats get cold during the chilly lowland winters. Christy has a deep fondness for the way these owners lovingly care for their goats, which are an important part of their livelihood.
